Sciatica
Sciatica is a term used to describe leg pain that originates in the lower back, but travels down through the sciatic nerve in the back of each leg. The sciatic nerve is a bundle of five nerve roots, two of which exit the lumbar spine, and three of which exit the sacral segment. The sciatic nerve then extends through the leg to deliver sensory and motor functions.
Sciatica is actually a symptom rather than a medical condition, so the underlying condition must be diagnosed in order for the sciatica to be treated.
